About this tree
Nearly five centuries of the Storrs family, gathered over many years.
This family tree was researched and compiled by David William Storrs (Generation 7) from information he gathered over many years. It went through several versions, each one revised as more information came to light. It all began when he inherited the family bible. That bible stopped before Generation 6 and had no space left to record any more.
The tree counts Robert Storrs of Cusworth (1749–1799) as Generation 1. The early history before him reaches back to William Storrs of Sutton cum Lound, Nottinghamshire (born 1523). It was first written up by Charles Townsend, then compared with Charles Storrs's book and ancestry.com and supplemented by John Bjorge's work with LDS records. The link between Robert Storrs (1685–1767) and the earlier family is a logical supposition rather than a proven fact, so it is drawn as a dashed line.

A note on spelling
The spelling of names matters less than you might think. In one family, several spellings turn up among the children. Many people at the time could not read or write, so church records often depended on the spelling of the local priest.
Where the name comes from
Storrs did not originate in England. The name is of Scandinavian origin: it arrived with the Vikings through the northern islands around 700 AD, and later with the Normans.
Privacy
To protect living family members, this website shows only years of birth, death and marriage. Full dates are kept in the family's private records.
David's invitation still stands: if you can add to or correct any generation, please share it with the family.
